A position has opened up on the Engineering team at Vitters Shipyard for an Engineering Project Manager working 38 hours per week.
What exactly will you be doing?
Imagine working at Vitters, where every day you get to help build a yacht that’s designed entirely to the client’s specifications, and where every project presents new challenges. Does that sound good? Then become our new engineering project manager!
As an engineering project manager, you’ll be part of the project team, which also includes a project leader, a production manager, and (lead) engineers. Each project team is involved in and/or responsible for a single project, from Sales to Service. You’ll support the project leader in the technical development and construction of the yacht. All disciplines are covered: hull construction, interior construction, electrical systems, installation engineering, hydraulic systems, propulsion, etc.
As an engineering project manager, you are responsible for coordinating engineering activities within the project and managing information needs, both internally and externally. You ensure that the right technical information is available at the right time and in the right place, and you maintain an overview of the technical systems being installed on the yacht. The role of engineering project manager begins with the evaluation of the design and continues through the evaluation of the production information. You monitor the work of the other engineers, analyze the processes, and know when to intervene—or when not to.
You’ll collaborate with specialists from the owner’s team, architects, external engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and, of course, your colleagues. Because you always keep the big picture and the construction process in mind, you know how to coordinate the right internal and external specialists and provide them with the necessary information. As an engineering project manager, you know which components you need and which suppliers are best for purchasing them. You create work orders, request quotes—for example, for new systems—and stay informed about the correct cost estimates. Throughout the construction process, you keep accurate records of all information and know how to document it properly.
